WELCOME.
LET'S GET STARTED.

Connecting with a Therapist
Step One:
Making changes can be one of the most difficult things in our lives, and it is one of my passions to support people going through uncomfortable transitions or who are struggling with making difficult choices. I support womxn* in knowing and owning their worth, finding their authentic selves and being brave enough to be their True Self in relationships and in the world.
My hope is to facilitate the process of change while minimizing the impact on one’s emotional world through tailored interventions that most often include client centered therapy, solutions focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and cognitive behavioral therapy. For those who are interested in learning more about managing their symptoms with mindfulness, meditation, art, and play, I also incorporate art therapy and mindfulness based practices. Depending on the client and their support system, this can be done by working in sessions individually, within a couplehood or polyhood, within a friendship, or within the family.

Maiya's Perspective
I identify as an Intersectional Feminist LGBTQ+ Counselor and artist. My passion is in working with folks from a feminist, multicultural perspective to empower people to live their best life.

Client Centered Approach
Guidance in the direction you want to go
The need for making or maintaining a change is a common theme in humanity. Whether we call it a goal, dream, hope, need, desire, or fantasy, I believe that we all need help from time to time in identifying and making an action plan to work towards change.
I use an array of interventions tailored to each clients needs to assist folks in identifying and expressing their struggles, hopes for the future, and in empowering people to make movement towards these hopes one step at a time, at each person's speed.

Individual Sessions
Let's schedule time to meet one on one so we can identify your goals, needs, and barriers in the way of you meeting them. From our first session, I really strive to understand your unique story and experiences that have led you to your current place in life as well as what you want out of life. Each session, we'll work towards making progress towards these goals realistically, authentically, and safely at your own pace.

Couples or Family Sessions
Whether you're looking for a counselor to work with you and your partner(s) or family member(s) as a Couples Therapist or Family Therapist, or just hoping to include the important people in your life in your healing process, we can make time within our work to include others in ways that are helpful, healing, and important to you.

Custom Homework for You
Each session, we'll work together to identify what bite sized goals you are ready to tackle and want to work on in between sessions. I've found that doing so increases the speed at which most people reach their goals. Homework often looks like: reading, research, writing, creating art, reflection, talking to others, completing a task or attending an event, and meditation or mindfulness practices.

Step Two: Schedule a Session
Update As of 4/25: I am accepting several new clients each month. I will continue to prioritize accepting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks due to ongoing marginalization and trauma that our communities are experiencing.

I do my best to return messages same day so we can start the screening process to see if we are a good fit for the work you'd like to do. Once I get the message that you're interested in talking more, I'll send you back an email with my standard screening questions to get to know you better. If everything lines up, the next step is then to schedule your first session!

I tend to move through this stage pretty fast compared to my colleagues because I know how frustrating it can be to feel like you're waiting to hear back from a counselor; especially when you've found someone you really want to add to your care team. I don't want you waiting on me, so my turn around in getting back to you is quick and efficient so we can either get you scheduled if your needs line up with what I offer, or if not, so you can continue your search for a therapist without a long delay.
That being said, feel free to reach out just to ask questions and take your time in deciding to schedule! Let's take this at the pace you're most comfortable with.
